New publication: Horizontal gene transfer and fusion spread carotenogenesis among diverse heterotrophic protists

We find a remarkable case of parallel evolution of eukaryotic (apo)carotenogenesis in divergent protistan lineages by repeated gene transfers.

The accepted manuscript features the dissertation work of Mariana Rius and is a collaboration w/ Jackie Collier and John Archibald’s lab was recently made available here at the Genome Biology and Evolution website. The article’s title is: Horizontal gene transfer and fusion spread carotenogenesis among diverse heterotrophic protists.
